Candy Bar Cookies Plated

Candy Bar Cookies are something I grew up having as a kid. I can remember helping roll the dough around the candy bar and rolling it in the sugar. My Mom actually refers to these cookies as Surprise Cookies, but I have always thought of them as Candy Bar Cookies. Either way, they are a great surprise to whoever gets to taste one of these.

Ingredients for Candy Bar Cookies

  • 1 cup sugar, plus extra for coating
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 sticks butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 and 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 60 mini Milky Ways, Snicker Bars, or Andes Mints

Utensils Needed

Directions for Candy Bar Cookies

Prep Time: 1 hour and 15 minutes / Cook Time: 8 minutes x 5

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add both sugars and butter. Cream together until smooth.
  3. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir well. I usually finish mixing it by hand as it is a very thick dough.
  4. Once mixed, place in the fridge for one hour, up to over night.
  5. Next, take dough out of fridge and unwrap the candy.
  6. Now, take a small piece of dough and flatten it out. Place a piece of candy in the middle of the dough and wrap it up and roll into a ball.
  7. Next, roll the ball in sugar and place on a cookie sheet.
  8. Bake cookies for about 8 – 12 minutes. Pull out of oven when they start to crinkle on top.
  9. Flatten cookies while still hot with a spatula.
  10. You can eat while still hot. We always refrigerated the cookies and ate them cold.

Variations

  • You can use any candy, just needs to be small.
  • I broke the Andes Mints in half and stacked them.
