Candy Bar Cookies are something I grew up having as a kid. I can remember helping roll the dough around the candy bar and rolling it in the sugar. My Mom actually refers to these cookies as Surprise Cookies, but I have always thought of them as Candy Bar Cookies. Either way, they are a great surprise to whoever gets to taste one of these.
Ingredients for Candy Bar Cookies
- 1 cup sugar, plus extra for coating
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 sticks butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 and 1/2 cups flour
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 60 mini Milky Ways, Snicker Bars, or Andes Mints
Utensils Needed
- Large mixing bowl
- Mixing spatula
- Measuring cups
- Measuring spoons
- Cookie sheet, two if you have two
- Small bowl for sugar
- Metal spatula
- Plastic spatula for flattening the cookies
Directions for Candy Bar Cookies
Prep Time: 1 hour and 15 minutes / Cook Time: 8 minutes x 5
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- In a large mixing bowl, add both sugars and butter. Cream together until smooth.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and stir well. I usually finish mixing it by hand as it is a very thick dough.
- Once mixed, place in the fridge for one hour, up to over night.
- Next, take dough out of fridge and unwrap the candy.
- Now, take a small piece of dough and flatten it out. Place a piece of candy in the middle of the dough and wrap it up and roll into a ball.
- Next, roll the ball in sugar and place on a cookie sheet.
- Bake cookies for about 8 – 12 minutes. Pull out of oven when they start to crinkle on top.
- Flatten cookies while still hot with a spatula.
- You can eat while still hot. We always refrigerated the cookies and ate them cold.
Variations
- You can use any candy, just needs to be small.
- I broke the Andes Mints in half and stacked them.
