Death By Chocolate Trifle I think got its name as it may cause heart attack. This dessert is loaded with different desserts all in one cup. I made homemade whipped cream rather than using Coolwhip, I think Coolwhip would make it a tad less rich. I was taking this to a get together so I loved the idea of doing individual servings in a cup. It worked perfect. I would allow yourself plenty of time to assemble. It does not seem like this recipe would take long to make but it took me about two hours. Next time I make this, I am adding caramel!

Directions for Death By Chocolate Trifle
Prep Time: 2 hours / Cook Time: 30 – 45 minutes
- Bake the brownies as directed in a 9 x 13 pan in advance. I baked mine the day before.
Chocolate Mousse
- In a medium mixing bowl place the chocolate chips.
- In the small sauce pan add one cup of heavy whipping cream. Place on burner, heat to medium-high heat.
- Once cream is boiling, dump over chocolate chips. Let sit for 1 – 2 minutes. Whisk chocolate and cream until smooth. Set aside to cool.
- In your kitchenAid bowl, add two cups heavy whipping cream. Turn mixer to high and mix until stiff peaks form.
- Take half your whipped heavy cream and fold into cooled chocolate. Add rest of whipped cream, folding in slowly.
- Once mixed, place in the fridge.
Whipped Cream
- In your KitchenAid mixer bowl, add two cups of heavy whipping cream. Turn mixer to high and mix until stiff peaks form.
- Turn mixer off, add 2 tablespoons vanilla and 2/3 cup powdered sugar.
- Turn mixer on low and mix. You may have to grab a rubber spatula and scrape the sides.
- Dump whipped cream into medium mixing bowl.
- Repeat steps 1 – 4. If you have a bigger KitchenAid mixer, you can do all batches together.
- Set whipped cream in fridge once both batches are done.
Assembly
- Place Heath bars in a food processor and blend. Set aside.
- Poke small holes in the brownies. Dump Kalua over the brownies.
- Next cut brownies into very small squares, mini bites.
- Place 20 small plastic cups out on the table.
- Place a few brownies in the bottom of each cup. (half the pan)
- Scoop a small table spoon of mousse on top of brownies. Use the spoon to flatten out.
- Scoop a small table spoon of whipped cream on top of mousse. Use the spoon to flatten out.
- If I were to add caramel, I would drizzle on now.
- Sprinkle a layer of Heath bar on top of Mousse.
- Then sprinkle a layer of pecans. (optional)
- Repeat steps 5 – 10. Enjoy!
Variations
- You can use a large container of Coolwhip in place of the whipped cream.
- Homemade chocolate mousse can be substituted with two packages of instant mousse. My store did not have any so I made from scratch.
- I really think some caramel drizzle would go great with this on top of the crushed Heath bar. I had mixed feelings on this added ingredient from others. I left it out, but really wish I had some on mine.
- You can make this in a large punch bowl rather than individual servings.
