Southern Sausage Gravy goes perfectly with my recipe for Cream Biscuits. I have been on the hunt for a good gravy recipe for awhile now. This recipe has been the best yet and my family also approves. I actually would not change anything about this recipe.

Ingredients for Southern Sausage Gravy

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 and 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika
  • Buttermilk biscuits

Directions for Southern Sausage Gravy

Prep Time: 20 minutes

  1. Bread Booze Bacon
  2. In your sauté pan, place the breakfast sausage. Turn the burner on to medium high heat.
  3. Using the meat chopper, break the sausage up. Cook until no longer pink.
  4. Add butter to pan, mix with sausage.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the sausage, stir to coat. Then cook for 1 minute.
  6. Pour in 1 cup of milk and stir well. Add rest of milk and stir.
  7. Bring to a simmer. Then cook for 8 – 10 minutes until it thickens. Stir well during this time.
  8. Once thickened, remove from heat and add pepper, salt, garlic, and paprika. Stir well.
  9. Serve over Cream Biscuits.

Variations

  • I recently had biscuits and gravy using Italian sausage, not my thing but may be good with this.
